Our XLVets membership brings some big benefits to our farm clients:
- Our medicines costs are very competitive thanks to XLVets’ purchasing power and the negotiation of lower prices on some core products, helping to cut your drugs bill
- Vets and staff across the XLVets practices work together to share experience, knowledge and skills and so deliver high standards of veterinary care
- We can also ‘pick the brains’ of vets in other XLVets practices to help solve challenging or unusual cases
- Some very useful and free factsheets and literature are produced by XLVets, including regular newsletters which feature technical articles on diseases - their prevention and cure.

Our Services
Flock and herd health planning
Maintaining high levels of health is the key to maximising animal performance. This is best achieved with a strategy of disease prevention, rather than treating only once disease has occurred.
For our dairy clients we like to carry out a cost review every year. From experience, we expect the vet spend in a healthy well-managed dairy herd to be less than 0.8ppl. Our records will show if it’s more than this, and then we work with you to find out why, and reduce it. This could mean making some management changes, or focusing on factors to improve udder health or fertility.
We also collaborate with the Nottingham Vet School at Sutton Bonington. Twice a year we attend a discussion group on dairy herd health, keeping up-to-date with the latest research findings. Some of our clients are also benefiting from taking part in a subsidised whole herd health review with ongoing quarterly visits to highlight problem areas and resolve them.
Your bull is effectively half your herd. At FVS we are fully equipped to carry out fertility and fitness testing on bulls. Testing consist of a physical assessment of eyes, feet, gait, teeth and scrotal circumference, an examination of reproductive organs and semen quality, and also a libido assessment. Our bull fertility testing service is available to anyone, you do not have to be a regular FVS client.
